Boot camp, spinning, storm doris

Wk 6 - 20/2/17 - 26/2/17

This week I ran Mon, Tues, thurs and attempted to run on sun.

Mon - this morning I took a spin class and this evening I went to strikers session which turned out to be a 7mile session with the warm up and cool down we did :
3 x 1k, 2min rec between
2 lap rec
4x 800, 2min rec between
2 lap rec
It was hard but I completed it then went to Boot camp with my youngest daughter Jordan, it's fair to say I was tired when I got in so had an early night.

Tues- my legs were tired this morning so the run felt like a hard slog and to top it all my strata didn't work. I was running past my friends house so stopped and called in for a brew and catch up. Think I did bout 5-6 miles but I got out there on tired legs and did it ☺️
Industrial Barrow shadowed in the distance by the lake district

Wed - No running today, but I did cover a spin class at work, got all my exercises done and had a deep tissue massage ouch, ouch, ouch !!!

Thurs - today i'd planned to do my long run as sun I am teaching swimming lessons for a friend, I got up and omg Storm Doris had arrived. Being me the stubborn person I am off I went. The 1st half was windy, but dry and still made for hard going. The 2nd half the wind had really picked up and I found myself on numerous occasions being blown to a standstill. It didn't help when it started lashing down with rain. I even had to laugh at the postman who was delivering letters in his van when he spoke to me and the look on his face basically said are you mad? Which of course there is no answer lol. At 1 point I was getting blown backwards down the hill I was trying to run up. At another point the telegraph poles were swaying that much the wires were spinning like a skipping rope and just after this bit I was holding the rail going over the bridge because I was getting blown into the middle of the road. Eventually I made it home and had run a good 18 mile. Stretches, ice bath and more stretching and foam rolling. Tough day !!! good mental prep tho :-).

Flooded lanes and howling winds from storm Doris

Fri - Spin class, glutes etc, trip to ulverston and trip to cinema with a friend to watch Patriots day. Great film.

Sun - Bad run day. I have been having loads of problems with my stomach especially in the mornings, Its driving me mad and have now gone back to basics of rice, veg, chicken and fish. I only managed to run a mile and had to phone Dave to come and get me. Dave is my very understanding partner and had to get out of bed and come and get me. I felt rough all day. Least said the better as I was feeling really low and in a really bad mood. Lets just hope we find what my body is deciding to reject every morning. Its not great feeling like you have got a hangover and not had a drink. Please help keep me motivated by donating to my just giving page.

Thankyou and hope you are enjoying my updates.

Remembrance, rest and rain

Wk 5 - 13/2/17 -19/2/17

Brathay training - this wk I ran mon, tues, Thurs, Fri, Sat and Sun

Mon-  Up at 6 out of the door at 7 to take dave to work then gym for my balancing, glutes, strengthening exercises, core stuff with Nicola before I started work. Today I ran with Barrow-in-Furness Striders It was tough but I completed the set for a change Lol. We did 1k, 90sec rec, 1k, 1 lap recovery & repeat. oh my poor body.

Tues- I got up early to run. Todays run was a run of remembrance. David would have been 28yrs old yesterday so I took him on my run with me. When I 1st set off I had a pain in my foot which was getting worse so I stopped, went back home, gave it a massage and 10 min later I was back out. I ran about 9 1/2 mile giving me plenty of time to remember our David and all the good things, the things that made us laugh. He still lives on in our hearts.  I hope you enjoyed your run David I certainly did. It was a fantastic morning for it, nice and fresh and crisp, we even got to see the sun rise.
This evening at work I taught my regular spin class and it was hot in that room I felt like I was melting or was it the fact my ankle is healing so I put more effort in lol.

Wed - Non running day, got all my stretching, glute work and balancing done and I even managed to stand on the bosu ball and throw the medicine ball at the trampoline my balance is slowly improving.
Then I went for some deep tissue massage ouch ouch ouch !!! Still I'm booked in next wk for another sess aaargh.

Thurs - When I got up this morning I felt a bit battered and bruised :-( so I went back to bed and had a lie in till bout 9 lol rest. The rest of the morning I looked after my grandson Byron, till I went to work. I ran with Panthers tonight and although I felt a bit tight when I set off I soon eased off a bit and enjoyed the rest of the run. Followed by a spin class.

Fri -This morning I took the spin class and then this evening I ran with Duddon Dragons, I suggested we should run up moor road, a nice steep hill, where I'm sure if you put your arm out while going up it, you could probably touch the road in front of you. lol. I was only joking but before long after a warm-up round the village we were at the top everyone did fantastic. It was all downhill after that back to the carpark for a well earned stretch I even got them doing the squat stretch, Adam you would be so proud of me 🏃 :-)

Sat - Parkrun day, Half term so off I went to tackle the undulating course round barrow's beautiful park. I felt like I had a good run tried to just keep going at the same pace, finished with a sweat on and in 27:27 nowhere near my pb but defo a fab time for now.

Saturday night was quiz night at the Red river club and Mavis did a fantastic job of making it a great night. We raised £180. Thank you everyone who turned up and see you at the race night !!! Well done to everyone and the team who won the meal for 4 at the Stan Laurel, hope you enjoy :-) they do delicious food.mmmm

Sun - Long run day
Today I ran 18 mile with the help of my friends from Panthers, It rained for most of it but it was ok because it was warm and the rain kept me cool. I really enjoyed the company today, we had a really good laugh and played the Alphabet game which kept us entertained lol, I felt a few niggles now and again and it was strange how they started in 1 place then moved somewhere else and so on not actually staying in any 1 place for long, phew. Run completed, I walked home after stretching off and headed straight for the ice bath brrr, hot shower then to work where I managed to do extra stretching and foam rolling.

Wet, windy, wondering why !!!

BRATHAY 2017

Wk 4

This wk I have run Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri and Sun

Monday Ah yes Monday. I finished teaching swimming lessons, got out of the pool and got dry. Why oh why on earth did I get dry lol. It was chucking it down, not just raining but pouring.

Dressed in my running gear with my hoodie under my jacket, bag on back, drink in hand I jogged up the road to the striders session. When I got there it was me on my own, I stood out of the rain under the shelter, thinking i'm gonna have to run home anyway and then a couple more turned up. Off we went for the warm up. the wind and rain hitting us head on, then from the side then from behind there was no escape.
The session was 3 x 800 2min rec
                            1 lap rec
                            Repeat x3
I did 1 set then I went and stood under the shelter. Thanks for the lift home Cath. I didn't even go in front room to see Byron I went straight up for a shower and when I got down. He was sat there book in hand waiting for me lol. Best book ever The hairy toe 🤣🤣🤣He was soon in bed and I got to do all my stretches in peace.

Tues was sooo hard. I got up early and went for a run in the dark, cold and wet. My legs felt like lead from the moment I set off. I told myself all will be good once I get going. I was so wrong. Everything hurt it was horrible. Why oh why do I always feel sluggish and don't seem to get any better. I kept pushing on I had my route set and I wanted to complete it. It was quite windy and when I got on the coast rd I noticed the tide was in. This distracted me for a while because the tide is always out when I run down here. As I was running through the lanes on way back I came across a car randomly parked engine running, hazards on very weird not a sole in sight. I just kept going and eventually finished my run feeling a bit low.
I have so many good friends who are quick to cheer me up, give me motivation that I feel truly blessed and would like to thankyou all for your wonderful, continuing support.💖

                                                                        Piel Island

Weds was a run free day with lots of stretching strengthening and rest.

Thurs morning I was in grange having physio on my ankle and legs aft sun, thanks David Jackson I felt a lot better when I left. I popped into my favourite, well everyones favourite cycle café for cake mmm I met some cyclists I knew and had a good natter and a laugh.
After work I went out with Panthers Advanced and I felt good, not that I could keep up but I ran harder and faster and my ankle felt great, in fact I didn't feel it at all. #happysonja# Lets hope things stay like this, note: mental state now improved !!!

Friday I went up to Askam to help with the beginners, what a fabulous night. I ran home when we were done, through the fisheries, it was really quiet and Eerie, the moon was full and every now and then I hear an animal rustle in the trees. My heart would skip a beat. I finally got to the end and headed across the level crossing and up the hill and home.

Sunday - long run day, or was it??  Sat night I got a message off a friend, I needed to cover her lessons and was happy to help. What am I gonna do now hmmm. Well up at 6, breakfast and out the door, it was freezing but I soon warmed up. Managed 11.5 mile, home, stretched, showered and out the door for lessons.
3 and half hrs later, hot shower and brew, I was already talking myself out of going out again in the cold as I had to go back to work for 5. Go home and chill :-).
Well on way home in car all snug and warm I some how talked myself back into it lol I had my training gear on so as soon as I got home I dumped the bags in the house and off I went for another 5 mile

Wk 3 blog  23-1-17

This wk I ran mon, Tues, Thurs x2, Fri and sun. Most of the time I am running I feel so sluggish I think I need to loose a few pounds. Plus drink more water.
Monday I got up early and went to the gym and got all my ankle, glutes and balancing work done before I started work. It felt so much better getting it done 1st thing. Later when I finished work I went to striders for a speed session. Although my legs no longer produce speed lol, I worked hard and could definitely feel it, I went home and tried to stretch and foam roll but Byron had other ideas and started jumping on me so put on hold till I'd read his book and put him to bed lol little monkey.

                          Byron joining in

Tuesday I got up and went out just aft 7, it was chucking it down but after bout 3 mile  I started to feel like my old self relaxed and enjoying my run instead of feeling sluggish and like it was never gonna get any better, I ran just under 8 mile and got all my stretches done and rolling before I picked Byron up from nursery. Later I went to work and taught a spin class. This actually loosened my legs along with glute strengthening between doing inductions in gym. Well I gotta do it some time 😁.

                                                                       The old lines
Wednesday I did most of my exercises early and went for a sports massage in the afternoon and it was really painful especially when the elbows started digging in, note to self- don't leave it so long next time......... Groan,  Thankyou Becky 😀
Thursday I got up and ran early again  and ran about 6mile I  felt a bit sluggish today but I got on with it. Even tho it was raining I ended up taking my jacket off and ran in my t-shirt I was really warm. Stretches all done before I picked Byron up from nursery, an afternoon at work followed by just under 3 mile with panther beginners,, followed by glute and strengthening exercises.

                                                           Bow bridge Furness Abbey

Friday I ran with the Duddon dragons, sister group to the panthers, it was fab to catch up with them it's not very often I get chance to run with them, gonna make time though and then I can run home as part of my training.

Sun, marathon day. The weather was forecast good but it is the lake district after all :-/. It Was great to see malc and Jonathan  2 of my 10 in 10 family, both fantastic runners, just knew I wasn't gonna see them again aft the start. Well done both :-). The race started well with us stood talking  and having a laugh,  summat to do with nipple tassels if I remember right 😂😂😂. Next min everyone was off and we nearly got left behind oops. This left me in a good place tho, right at the back, today's strategy was to get rnd in 1 piece,  take it easy and enjoy. The 1st mile  was hard straight into the hills, with a little sign attached to a  tree saying something to the effect of "don't listen to the 1st mile, it's a liar",  I can only presume it was a warm-up for what was to come, then more hills  we must have climbed for about 3mile at least. It was tough and when we got to the top of the 1st section we went off road rnd parkamoor, this was an adventure with the paths being totally waterlogged negotiating our way around so we didn't get too wet too early. At one point I heard a voice saying "make sure you pick a good way cos I'm following you" fool 😂😂😂. The views were non existent because the fog was really thick. By this time  the half marathoners were flying past us we were on a very narrow path and it was quite scary when they came pounding up behind u, most were quite good and shouted which way they were coming through, others just ploughed through.  The rest of the 1st half was uneventful I walked the steep hills and ran  the rest.

As I set off up the hill at the start of the 2nd half I was greeted on the narrow climb by a convoy of land-rovers so I stopped and let them past. Next a few mountain bikers hairing down,  screeching brakes as they saw me.  After this climb I ran to the next technical section and ran/walked down to join the road which joined the route of the Windermere marathon  route for a while b4 turning off and heading up to claife heights.  I ran/walked this off rd section and slowly, no  very slowly I headed down the wet, slippy steep coffin trail to the edge of Windermere. I ran most of the next section till I got to the next steep off rd hill then walked to the top and ran down to cookoo brow where I met Helen a fab marshal with a big smile  and a big foam hand  lol. After this it was a mud bath,  and some more up hills. I remember seeing a sign saying "don't stop because yor tired, stop when yor done" this made me laf cos the next climb was a hell of a climb oh and aft crossing a river, straight through the middle the climb got bigger and steeper till eventually I was back on the fire track on my way to the finish. It was tough, wet, cold, sunny, warm and tough, have I already said that?? 😂😂 but I did it  and it was good mental prep for may xx

Wk 2 blog 16-1-17

This week I ran Mon, Tues,  Thurs and Sun
Monday was my 1st night back with the Barrow & furness striders and boy it was tough lol, I gave up my lunch today to make sure I got all or most of my ankle, balance and glute exercises done, some days I find it really hard to fit everything in :-( after running I got home and stretched off with the help of my grandson who seems to love my recovery drink and then using me as a bean bag come trampoline :-/ in the end I give up and read him his favourite book lol.  Then get him to bed so I can finish my stretches and foam rolling :-). If the dog decides to let me have my mat back.

Tues I got up early and ran about 4 mile to the gym which happens to be less than a mile away from home. My legs felt heavy and it was hard even tho it was flat. All my exercises were done b4 I had to pick Byron up from nursery. I taught a spin class later which I always put 100% in hehe.

Thurs am i had a massage, met a friend accidentally for a brew lol she was out on her bike and I called in my favourite biking cafe for some homemade cake which didn't quite make it home.great catch up tho. Thurs eve I ran with my running group Parkside Panthers, nice easy 3miler.

Sun I ran up Grizedale it was wet, but the smells of the damp trees and woodland was fab, it was really hard going all uphill at the start for miles and miles lol, the off road bit at parkamoor was great, and I really enjoyed the run/walk as I had to walk in places and I felt good. A contrast in weather was pretty awesome too with drizzle, wind and rain, floods, snow and dry with sunshine :-)

This wk I ran about 22 mile

                                                                    Team 2017

This week I ran mon, Tues,  Thurs  and today
Monday I felt sluggish but OK think it's because I teach swimming lessons all day in the heat of the pool environment finished of with 1 1/2 hrs  in the water b4 I run home but I managed a sluggish 4 mile run followed by Adams stretches and foam rolling helped by my grandson

                                                   FOAM ROLLING WITH BYRON

During lunch I did my balancing stuff,  and strengthening exercises
Tues I felt OK and ran a comfy run of just under 4 miles followed by Adams stretching  followed in the evening by some strengthening & balancing & a spin class. The run this morning was quite Eerie and foggy and really quiet.

                                                               Furness abbey

Wed I just did strengthening and balancing
Thurs I had a un rnd beach bout 5-6 mile with draco my choc lab followed by stretching, strengthening and balancing stuff. Aft work I ran with panthers beginners and finished off with stretching. Today was the first day I ran pain free even tho the sand was really soft and it was tough going  I enjoyed the run and it felt hard.

Fri I went straight to bed aft work feeling terrible with a sore throat and head cold
Sat cake sale day, I still felt like rubbish, but went to work to do the lessons then helped Jenny do the cakes a d coffee's., no run today either but will get out 2morrow.
Sunday I ran my longest and hardest run since November,  and it wasn't pretty, the ankle seems to be healing well but this flaming cold needs to do 1. At first I struggled to breath and then I coughed my guts up  and this seemed to clear the airways for a while. This was a continual cycle through the run. Then I just happened to meet a nice little hill I 4got was there. Then running along coast rd I saw some friends who beeped and waved, nice little boost further down the rd I must of kicked some stones up so had to stop and empty shoe  lol (any excuse) it was red hot mayb I shouldn't of put this Base Layer on,  y did I? I never wear 1 oh well. Soon to take away the the heat from the body was the burning sensation in my feet aaargh,  think I'm being tested today. This went on for bout 2mile getting worse  so I walked for a short while,  then ran again  it gradually came back but I kept going then at just about  12 mile my phone rang I dug it out of my pocket and answered it it was Jenny my bestie, must have known I was suffering, I stopped to talk about all the wonderful people who have helped me this weekend raising money for Brathay's focus on furness appeal helping vulnerable youngsters right on our doorstep with Jenny and Natalie by my
side it was fantastic.  This conversation gave me the strength ʋ to carry on and finish my run. Thankyou to everyone who made cakes and cookies and to all the people that bought coffee's etc and cakes u have bn amazing  over the weekend we raised £200 big thanks to everyone..
